T minus 144 days

As December draws to a close, I look to 2014 with much excitement and anticipation. No, this has nothing to do with resolutions, I stopped that resolution nonsense many, many years ago. No, this has everything to do with manifesting a dream that began two years back. And what is that dream? To take a few months off of work to travel, spend time with my family, and make a difference. And when I say “travel”, I mean weeks at time and traveling solo. Starting in May 2014, I will be embarking on a multi-week trip to Europe and Africa. I will be traveling solo to Iceland, Amsterdam, Spain, Berlin and then embarking on a 10 day trip to Kenya with my two sons. I am using this blog to share my thoughts and experiences as I prepare and undertake this journey. I’ve never done anything like this before in my life. Many would say I am crazy for doing what I’m doing: “You’re 45!” “You have a great job!” “You are taking three and half months off of work?!”

Yes. I am. And, I hope my experience inspires you to grab life by the hand, regardless of  age or circumstance, and make the most of it, finding the joy and miracles in the everyday experiences, embarking on explorations whether near or far, enjoying great food, making friends, and being willing to follow “plan B”.
